A grassroots club with a world-class record
Team Nemesis is a Reading-based martial arts club founded in 2001. This month it closed its 2026 international season with 11 World Championship gold medals. Together with a 2025 season of 33 golds across four World Championships, the club’s two-year total therefore stands at 44.
However, the 2026 number is more impressive than it first looks. Rising travel and competition costs were putting real pressure on families. As a result, the club deliberately cut its international schedule from four championships to two.

Head Instructor Peter Felix put it this way: “Forty-four World Championship golds in two years is an incredible achievement for a grassroots Reading club. We have spent 25 years turning complete beginners into World Champions, and these results demonstrate the quality of our athletes and coaching team.
“But Nemesis is about more than medals. We develop confidence, discipline, resilience and practical self-defence skills that stay with our young people for life. Our next generation is already coming through, and we’re looking forward to 2027.”
Why 2027 matters
The 2027 World Championships will be held in London, which brings the competition back to the UK after a long absence. For a club whose athletes have been earning their golds overseas, a home Championships is a rare opportunity. Equally, it should not be decided by which families can afford the entry.
Before then, the route to London runs through two events this November:
- 15 November 2026 – World Championship Qualifiers. Team Nemesis is aiming to qualify 15 fighters for the 2027 World Championships in London.
- 23 November 2026 – Bristol Open. Another key development event for the club’s fighters ahead of the 2027 season.
